The Society of Sri Gauranga

By Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura

               Srila-Bhaktivinoda-Thakura

Only those who have faith in
Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu are part of His society

After thorough deliberation we have concluded that mankind will greatly benefit through Sri Gauranga Samaja, the society of Sri Gauranga. Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura has said “ye va mane, ye na mane, saba tanra dasa– Everyone is a servant of Sri Caitanya, even if some accept Him as Bhagavan and others do not.”* Indeed, every Gaudiya Vaisnava accepts that Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu is Sri Krsna Himself, the Absolute Truth.

Lord Krishna In Ancient Egypt

Krishna and Rathyatra Festival in Ancient Egypt?
By Bibhu Dev Misra

An interesting piece of information caught my attention during my journey across the sacred sites of Egypt during early 2010. During the light and sound show in the magnificent temple complex of Karnak, I heard a voice booming over the loudspeakers: “I am Amon-Ra…

Amon-Ra

Amon-Ra

The waters of the Nile sprout from my sandals.” This immediately reminded me the Vedic Creator God Vishnu.

Defending Dharma: Handling Christian Challenges

By Yajnavalkya Dasa

bible

This booklet especially deals with the arguments that Christians use most often to criticize and demean the Vedic tradition, or discourage others from being Hindus or followers of Sanatana-dharma. Herein you can find the means to help yourself and others Defend Dharma by using logic and common sense, and the counter arguments that can be used against the criticisms from those who simply do not understand it, especially Christians. This also helps you recognize the lapses in logic (known as “philosophical fallacies”) in their own arguments.

PREFACE

Not too long ago, I came across a book written for Christians who plan to “convert” members of other religions to Christianity. This book dealt with other religions’ beliefs, and had a handy guide for pointing out the so-called “weak points” in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc. Of course, Christians have a right to practice their own religion, but their rights end where others’ rights begin.

The Impetus for Sense Gratification
by Srila Bhakti Kumuda Santa Gosvami Maharaja

Categories of Jivas

We observe many types of jivas around us. A jiva is a conscious being: “jivati iti jivah – that which has life is a jiva.” They have been divided into five categories, namely,

The All Is One Philosophy Is Based On A Grand Illusion

An exerpt from Srila Bhaktivinodha Thakuras Jaiva Dharma
“The nature of the soul”

Vrajanatha: What is this philosophy called Mayavada? I am unable to understand it.

Babaji: Listen carefully. Maya-sakti is just a perverted reflection of the spiritual kingdom, and it is also the controller of the material world which the jiva enters when he is overpowered by ignorance and illusion. Spiritual things have an independent existence, and are independently energetic, but Mayavada does not accept this. Instead, the Mayavada theory declares that the individual soul is itself brahma, and only appears to be different from brahma because of the influence of maya. This theory states that the jiva only thinks himself to be an individual entity, and that the moment the

Lord Krishna Is the Supreme Absolute Truth

Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada speaking

By His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

The famous atheist Kapila propagated the Sankhya philosophy. He concluded that the material world consists of twenty-four material elements namely, earth, water, fire, air, and ether; form, taste, smell, sound, and touch; eyes, tongue, nose, ears, and skin; mouth, hands, legs, anus, and genitals; mind, intelligence, and false ego; and the unmanifested state of the three modes of nature (pradhana). When Kapila was unable to perceive the unmanifested soul after analyzing the twenty-four elements, he concluded that God does not exist. Thus the devotee community regards Kapila as an atheist.

Big Bang Idea Is A Big Bang

Big questions about the big bang

When examined closely, the cosmologists’ confident explanation of the origin and structure of the universe falls apart

Look up at the night sky, full of stars and planets. Where did it all come from? These days most scientists will answer that question with some version of the big bang theory. In the beginning, you’ll hear, all matter in the universe was concentrated into a single point at an extremely high temperature, and then it exploded with tremendous force. From an expanding superheated cloud of subatomic particles, atoms gradually formed, then stars, galaxies, planets, and finally life. This litany has now assumed the status of revealed truth. In accounts that deliberately evoke the atmosphere of Genesis, the tale of primal origins is elaborately presented in countless textbooks, paperback popularizations, slick science magazines, and television specials complete with computer-generated effects.

Sri Ramananda Raya

Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Sri Ramananda Ray

Sri Ramananda Ray was the viceroy of the east and west side of the Godavari River in the empire of Raja Sri Prataparudra. When Mahaprabhu was setting out on his tour of South India, Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya especially requested him to meet Ramananda Raya.

“Please do not neglect him, thinking he belongs to a sudra family engaged in material activities. It is my request that You

The Forgetfulness of the Humanists

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Maharaja

By Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Maharaja

The Fountainhead of all eternal and temporal manifestations is confined in Sree Krishna alone. The non-absolute phases are emanations from a particular potency whose analytical distributions are known as gunas or qualities. In the factor of time, they are branched as past, present and future and their material representations have three characteristics viz. evolution,

Sankaras Philosophy

By
Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Maharaja

Devotee: Why is it that Sankaras philosophy has so much appeal to people in general?

Srila Sridhar Maharaj: It is a compromise; it apparently gives harmony to all the sections of worshipers of different types of gods. There are so many worshipers of so many gods; and Sankara harmonises them: What you are doing, it is alright you are worshiping Kali, or you are worshiping Ganesa, or Surya, or

Cheating Religions

The subject of our discussion today is sanatanadharma and the problems of the world; or, rather, sanatana-dharma as the solution to the problems of the world. We have up till now been hearing various learned speakers discuss the nature of sanatanadharma. We must begin by understanding that most of the dharmas, or types of socio-religious duties, prevalent in the world today are mundane and perishable.
