The Eight Instructions of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
with a Commentary by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1535) is the most recent incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna. He appeared 500 years ago in Navadvip, West-Bengal and started His worldwide Sankirtan mission of propagating the chanting of the holy name of the Lord (the process of self-realization for this age – to meditate upon the sound of the maha-mantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare). He left us only eight verses, called Siksastakam, in which His mission and precepts are revealed.

Who Are You?

His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja

A lecture by Tridandisvami Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja
Malaysia, March 10, 2002

Our ancient Indian scriptures tell us that no one in this world wants suffering. Everyone wants complete happiness, and everyone is involved in endeavoring day and night for this. We see, however, that although the world's leaders have been discovering so many ways to be happy since ancient times, they have not been successful. They especially think that wealth can buy us happiness, but until now no one has become truly happy by that wealth. They discovered trains, then airplanes, and then so many medicines, and nowadays they have created computers and other new inventions. Nowadays doctors can transplant hearts, taking the heart of any animal and placing it in the body of a human being. After a person dies, the doctors can take his eyes and give them to another person. From the kitchen to the battlefield, there is advanced medical science, transportation, and communication; but still no one is happy. In fact, those who are most advanced in technology and science found that the buildings symbolic of their highest wealth and national defense were recently bombed and destroyed – and they fear still more to come. So no one is truly happy, and no one can stop death.

The Glory Of Exclusive Devotion

The deeper meaning of the verse api cet su-duracarah
by Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Trivikrama Gosvami Maharaja

Bhaktivedanta Trivikrama Gosvami Maharaja

In Srimad Bhagavad-gita (9.30) Sri Krishna declares:

api cet su-duracaro bhajate mam ananya-bhak sadhur eva sa mantavyah samyag vyavasito hi sah

If even a man of abominable character engages in  My exclusive bhajana, he is to be considered asadhu, due to his being properly situated in his determination.

In his commentary to this verse, Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura quotes Sri Krishna as saying:

Puranic Time Measurements “Explained”.

Puranic Time Measurements “Explained”.

Outside of the three planetary systems, the four Yugas multiplied by one thousand comprise one day on the planet of Brahma. A similar period comprises a night of Brahma, in which the creator of the universe goes to sleep…

The Puranas describe a number of time cycles within cycles. Discussions of these cycles can become confusing because different cycles are measured in different types of units. For example, the cycles are often described in units of deva years ;( years in the higher planets ), each of which equals 360 human years. ;

There is one personality whose name is not referred to in the Srimad Bhagavatam, yet the readers of Srimad Bhagavatam nuture the hope of becoming that person's devoted servant. May that personality, who is everything to Bhagavan, completely destroy our false-ego and grant us shelter at Her feet.

Today is Her appearance day. Having accrued all varieties of compassion from Bhagavan, she distributes

Why Krsna Became Gauranga Mahaprabhu

From a lecture by by Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja

Gour Govinda Maharaja

Two Kinds of Maya

Two mayas are there. One is Maha-maya, that is to say, the illusionary energy, and the other is Yoga-maya. Yoga means that which gives you an opportunity to go to Krsna. That is Yoga-maya. That which prevents, that is viyoga-maya or Maha-maya. Yoga means union. Viyoga means separation. So there are two mayas.

Viyoga-maya or Maha-maya is working in the material world. Her activities are so wonderful. Srila Prabhupada has said: the froggish philosophers, mundane wranglers, what can they understand–what to speak of Yoga-maya, the internal energy of the Lord, her activities are so amazing and wonderful. Even sometimes it becomes very difficult on the part of Krsna to understand them! What to speak of us, even Krsna becomes amazed! So I shall speak that thing.

You can take the iron rod which is red hot in association with fire and touch anything; it will burn. That means it is no longer acting as iron; it is acting as fire. Similarly, if you associate with this transcendental incarnation, sound incarnation of God, then you will be gradually godly. If you want to get yourself warm, then you have to associate with fire.

Modern Education or Mass Execution

In today’s world, education can be defined as the systematic distribution or the reception of knowledge in society, which is viewed from various perspectives based upon cultural values, language, people and religion.

In many ancient cultures, education involved a little formal education and perhaps no schools as such. In some, only one or perhaps a few sacred books were studied.

In more complex societies, such as the Vedic civilization, the sheer quantity of

Nothing Wrong Eating Animals?

Every living being has a specific purpose for its existence. The purpose for their existence, definitely, is not to be killed and eaten by others. One of the biggest reason for most of the Worlds problems today is the mass killing of innocent living creatures for food.

A Short Refutation Of Buddhism

The Buddhists Offer Untouchable Food to Lord Caitanya

20120710-185526.jpg

"When the nonbelievers heard of the erudition of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, they came to Him with great pride, bringing their disciples with them. One of them was a leader of the Buddhist cult and was a very learned scholar. To establish the nine philosophical conclusions of Buddhism, he came before the Lord and began to speak.

….The scriptures of the Buddhist cult are chiefly based on argument and logic, and they contain nine chief principles. Because Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu defeated them in their argument, they could not establish their cult.

Purport: Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura states that according to the Buddhist cult there are two ways of understanding philosophy. One is called Hinayana, and the other is called Mahayanaa. Along the Buddhist path there are nine principles:

  • (1) The creation is eternal; therefore there is no need to accept a creator.
  • (2) This cosmic manifestation is false.
  • (3) "I am" is the truth.
  • (4) There is repetition of birth and death."

Mayavadi Philosophy

A Short Refutation Of Mayavada Philosophy

This philosophy was established by Sripad Sankaracarya, in order to refute Buddhistic doctrine.

The Mayavadis believe that the Supreme Truth is brahman or spiritual energy which is unlimited, without form, qualities, or activity. According to Mayavada philosophy, all living entities are one with brahman, but at present, are covered by illusion, and therefore temporarily seperated from brahman. When the illusion is gone, the living entity becomes again one with the brahman and loses its identity. The main idea is that everything is God, meaning that you too are God but somehow or other you forgot that you were God.

Srila Narayana Maharaja…

Yesterday we heard how Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Raya Ramananda met together for the first time, and how they conversed with each other in a very humble mood. When they first met, and Sri Raya Ramananda was embraced by the Lord, Raya Ramananda uttered the Srimad-Bhagavatam verse that had been spoken previously by Nanda Maharaja to Gargacarya:
